Andrew holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree from the University of Cape Town. At the same time as his medical studies, Andrew completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in Distributed Commercial Information Systems (Class medal) and a part-time Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree in Information Systems (First Class, Class Medal). He received the Inspired Award for the best post-graduate student in Information Systems and the Ernst & Young Award for the best part-time information systems honours technical report. Andrew is a CFA charter holder and scored 95% for his US Series 3 exams.

Andrew completed his medical internship in Soweto at Chris-Hani Baragwanath Hospital, the 3rd largest hospital in the world. During this time he conducted research and in 2007 published an academic article on infective cardiac disease. After a career in medicine, Andrew worked as an analyst and consultant for the financial services division of Accenture, South Africa and was based at the JSE. Andrew was the joint #1 rated analyst in his peer group.

From 2006 onwards, Andrew pursued a career in Private Equity in London, where he worked for Consensus Business Group, a partner in the Masdar Clean Tech Fund. Andrew played a leading role in the LBO of Duratherm Inc, which won M&A Advisor’s Environmental Deal of the Year 2008.

Andrew subsequently worked as an analyst for Northlight Group, a long-short European high yield credit, leveraged loan and distressed debt hedge fund. Northlight was founded by a team of senior portfolio managers and traders from Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers and GLG Partners. During this time he was regulated by the UK Financial Conduct Authority with a CF-4 Hedge Fund Partner Function.

Andrew then joined BlueBay Asset Management, a US$ 60 billion fixed income manager as an Institutional Portfolio Manager. Andrew subsequently returned to South Africa where he founded Louw & Company.

Andrew is a competitive swimmer and placed 23rd in his age group for the 100m Freestyle at the 2012 Masters Swimming World Championships. He also won the 50m Freestyle in his age group at the 2012 UK Masters Long Course Swimming Championships. Andrew has completed Iron Man France and the Lisbon Marathon.
